Before FirstLine Roofing and FirstLine Restoration became distinct divisions, there was construction.

Scott Gordon co-founded FirstLine Construction Corp. in 2017 after developing more than 27 years of experience across residential and commercial construction, renovations, roofing, restoration, building systems, property-loss response, and project coordination.

That construction background remains the foundation behind every FirstLine division today.

Understanding how a building is designed, assembled, modified, protected, damaged, and ultimately restored changes the way a contractor approaches every project. It affects how plans are interpreted, how scopes are developed, how trades are sequenced, how permits are managed, how concealed conditions are addressed, and how quality is controlled from the beginning of a project through completion.

FirstLine was not created around one service. It was built around the ability to understand and manage the property as a complete system.

Construction Is the Foundation of the FirstLine Brand

The name FirstLine now represents three connected areas of service:

• Construction
• Roofing
• Restoration

Each division has its own purpose, personnel, equipment, and technical requirements. However, the operating foundation behind them is construction.

A roofing project affects more than the materials visible from the exterior. It involves structural decking, drainage, flashing, penetrations, transitions, walls, insulation, ventilation, and the overall building envelope.

A restoration project does not end when the water is extracted or damaged materials are removed. The building must still be repaired, reconstructed, and returned to a functional condition.

A renovation is not simply a collection of new finishes. It requires planning, demolition, trade coordination, building-code compliance, sequencing, inspections, and an understanding of how each new component will interact with the existing structure.

Scott’s construction experience connects those disciplines and gives FirstLine Construction Corp. a broader perspective on the work.

More Than 27 Years of Construction Experience

Construction knowledge is developed through years of evaluating real buildings, working through field conditions, coordinating trades, solving sequencing problems, and making decisions that affect everything that follows.

Scott’s experience extends across multiple areas of the industry, including:

• Residential construction and renovations
• Commercial construction
• Office and tenant build-outs
• Property improvements
• Structural modifications
• Additions and expansions
• Multifamily construction
• New construction
• Roofing systems
• Building-envelope conditions
• Water, fire, mold, and property-loss reconstruction
• Project estimating and scope development
• Permitting and municipal coordination
• Insurance-related construction documentation

This background allows Scott to view a project beyond the immediate task in front of him.

Removing a wall can affect electrical systems, plumbing, fire protection, ceilings, flooring, and adjacent finishes. Replacing a roof may expose deteriorated decking or structural conditions that could not be confirmed during the initial inspection. Opening a building assembly during restoration can reveal prior repairs, water migration, deterioration, or noncompliant construction.

Experience does not eliminate concealed conditions, but it helps a contractor anticipate how one decision may affect the rest of the project.

Residential Construction and Renovation

Residential construction requires more than the ability to perform individual trades. A general contractor must coordinate the entire process while protecting the homeowner’s property, schedule, budget, and intended design.

FirstLine’s residential capabilities can include:

• New residential construction
• Major renovations
• Additions and expansions
• Structural modifications
• Kitchen renovations
• Bathroom renovations
• Interior reconfiguration
• Flooring and finish improvements
• Window and door coordination
• Roofing and exterior improvements
• Damage-related reconstruction

The work begins with understanding the existing building and the desired outcome. From there, the contractor must define the scope, identify required plans and permits, coordinate trades, establish the correct sequence, and monitor workmanship throughout construction.

Scott’s background allows him to evaluate residential projects from both a technical and practical perspective. The finished space must look right, but the assemblies behind the finishes must also function properly.

Commercial Construction and Tenant Improvements

Commercial construction adds another level of coordination.

Office, retail, hospitality, industrial, medical, and other commercial environments may involve accessibility requirements, life-safety systems, fire-rated assemblies, mechanical systems, electrical loads, plumbing modifications, specialized finishes, inspections, and operational constraints.

Many projects must also be completed while portions of the property remain occupied.

Through its commercial construction and project-management services, FirstLine can coordinate:

• Office build-outs
• Tenant improvements
• Medical-office renovations
• Retail construction
• Hospitality improvements
• Commercial interior renovations
• Common-area improvements
• Framing and drywall
• Suspended ceilings
• Flooring and painting
• Electrical and plumbing trades
• Permitting and inspections
• Scheduling within occupied properties

Successful commercial construction requires careful planning before work begins. Materials must be selected and ordered. Trade dependencies must be understood. Inspections must occur at the proper stages. Work areas may need to be isolated, and disruptive activities may need to be scheduled around normal operations.

Scott’s role is to help establish the project controls that keep these moving parts aligned.

Planning, Permitting, and Municipal Coordination

A well-built project can still experience unnecessary delays when plans, permits, product approvals, inspections, or municipal requirements are not addressed correctly.

South Florida contractors work across municipalities with different procedures, document requirements, review timelines, and inspection practices. Although the applicable building codes provide a common technical framework, the administrative process can vary significantly between jurisdictions.

Scott’s experience includes navigating permitting and construction coordination throughout Broward, Palm Beach, and Miami-Dade counties.

Depending on the project, that process may involve:

• Reviewing the proposed scope
• Coordinating plans and supporting documents
• Determining applicable permit requirements
• Submitting contractor documentation
• Responding to municipal comments
• Coordinating revisions
• Scheduling required inspections
• Addressing field corrections
• Managing project closeout

The Florida Building Commission provides the statewide building-code framework, but execution still requires familiarity with local processes and field conditions.

Permitting is not separate from construction management. It is part of planning the project correctly.

Understanding the Building as a Complete System

One of the most important principles behind FirstLine Construction Corp. is that building components do not function independently.

The roof affects the walls and interior. Exterior openings affect air and water infiltration. Mechanical systems influence temperature, humidity, and condensation potential. Plumbing failures can damage finishes and concealed assemblies. Interior modifications can affect electrical, structural, mechanical, and life-safety systems.

This is where Scott’s experience across construction, roofing, restoration, mold, and building-envelope conditions becomes especially valuable.

He does not evaluate a roof solely as a roofing component or interior damage solely as a drywall problem. He considers how the condition may relate to the rest of the building.

That broader understanding improves:

• Scope development
• Trade coordination
• Construction sequencing
• Identification of related conditions
• Communication with owners and consultants
• Reconstruction planning
• Quality-control decisions

It also explains why the FirstLine divisions work together naturally.

How Construction Expertise Strengthens FirstLine Roofing

FirstLine Roofing is a dedicated roofing division, but it benefits directly from the company’s general-construction foundation.

Roofing systems interact with structural decking, parapet walls, stucco, windows, drainage, mechanical equipment, penetrations, transitions, and interior assemblies. When water enters a property, identifying the true source requires more than noticing where a ceiling stain appeared.

Scott holds both a Florida Certified General Contractor license and a Florida Certified Roofing Contractor license. This combination supports a more complete understanding of the roof and the building beneath it.

The construction perspective is particularly important when roofing work uncovers deteriorated decking, structural damage, improperly completed prior work, or conditions involving adjacent building components.

FirstLine can evaluate what belongs within the roofing scope, what may require additional construction, and how the work should be coordinated.

How Construction Expertise Strengthens FirstLine Restoration

FirstLine Restoration responds to water, fire, mold, environmental, trauma, and other property losses.

Emergency mitigation may be the first priority, but reconstruction is what brings the property back.

Water-damaged drywall, flooring, insulation, cabinetry, trim, ceilings, and framing may need to be removed and replaced. Fire losses can involve structural repairs, roofing, mechanical coordination, electrical work, finish restoration, and substantial reconstruction. Mold remediation may require controlled removal followed by rebuilding the affected assemblies.

Because FirstLine began with construction expertise, restoration scopes can be developed with the eventual rebuild in mind.

That continuity helps connect:

1. Emergency stabilization
2. Inspection and documentation
3. Mitigation or remediation
4. Controlled demolition
5. Construction planning
6. Permitting
7. Reconstruction
8. Final completion

The property does not pass through unrelated companies at every stage. The divisions can coordinate around one broader understanding of the building.

Licensing That Supports the Work

Scott’s primary construction credential is his Florida Certified General Contractor license, CGC1530039.

He also holds:

• Florida Certified Roofing Contractor license, CCC1334142
• Florida Mold Assessor license, MRSA 2655
• Florida Mold Remediator license, MRSR 2865
• Florida Independent Insurance Adjuster license
• IICRC Water Damage Restoration Technician certification
• IICRC Fire and Smoke Restoration Technician certification
• IICRC Trauma and Crime Scene Technician certification

Licenses can be verified through the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

The significance is not simply the number of credentials. It is the perspective created by working across these disciplines.

Scott understands construction before the damage, emergency response after the damage, and reconstruction required to restore the property. His adjuster background also provides familiarity with estimates, scopes, photographs, measurements, and insurance-related documentation without placing FirstLine in the role of determining policy coverage.

Construction Management Requires Communication

Owners often experience construction through the quality of communication as much as the quality of the finished work.

Questions arise. Conditions change. Materials have lead times. Inspections affect scheduling. Concealed damage can alter the scope. Multiple trades may depend on one another before their work can proceed.

A contractor’s responsibility is not only to perform the work. It is also to organize the process and communicate what is happening.

FirstLine’s approach emphasizes:

• Clearly defined scopes
• Organized project documentation
• Realistic scheduling
• Trade coordination
• Progress communication
• Change-order documentation
• Inspection management
• Quality-control oversight
• Project closeout

Scott’s experience helps establish these expectations across the company.

The Builder Behind FirstLine

Scott Gordon is known throughout South Florida as a business owner, contractor, industry professional, and community leader.

Behind that visibility is a construction career developed over more than 27 years.

That experience is what allows Scott to understand the relationship between a project’s plans and its field conditions, between a damaged component and the surrounding structure, and between the immediate scope and the completed building.

It is also why construction remains the foundation of the FirstLine brand.

FirstLine Roofing and FirstLine Restoration are not disconnected businesses operating under a similar name. They are specialized divisions built upon the construction knowledge, project controls, technical licensing, and leadership of FirstLine Construction Corp.
